GENERAL

Performance Rights:

Why do I need a performing licence?

All of our musicals are protected under Copyright law, therefore in order to produce one you must obtain a performing licence which grants you the right to perform the show. Faber Music licence the shows on the writers’ behalf to ensure that each performance adheres to the authors’ intentions.

How do I apply for a performing licence?

To apply for a performing licence click ‘Licence this Show’ on the relevant show page.

How much does a performing licence cost?

The cost of a performing licence varies for each show. This information is available on the relevant show page.

How far in advance of my performance do I have to apply for a licence?

As you can only start rehearsing once we have received a signed copy of your licence, we advise that you apply at least a month in advance of your planned first rehearsal date.

Our production is private; do we still have to pay for performing rights?

Even if your production is private, you will still need to apply for a licence and pay for the performing rights.

Can I cut or change the show in any way?

Any changes require approval from the shows’ creators. Therefore, if you wish to make any changes you should inform us as early as possible during your application process.

Can I perform to a backing track?

This depends on the musical in question. Please check the relevant show page.

Hire:

Can I order a perusal score?

Yes, you can order a perusal score from the relevant show page.

When will I receive my hire materials?

Providing that you return your signed licence to us in time, we aim to get the hire materials to you on the date that you request on your application form.

What are your postage and packaging charges?

For UK postage and packaging we charge £15 per despatch. If you require hire delivery to a different country, this fee may differ and will be outlined on your initial quote.

We’ve got scripts and scores from our library – do we have to hire copies from you?

Where materials are on hire only then all organisations who request a performing licence will be required to hire materials from us. These materials are the ONLY authorised materials for rehearsals or performances. Information on whether materials are available to buy can be found on the relevant show page.

How do I return our hire materials?

We ask that you post your materials within two weeks of your final performance to our hire library:

I’ve lost my materials, how much will I be charged?

If the materials are damaged or lost, you will be liable for the cost of the materials.

Will I be charged VAT for my hire materials?

You will not be charged VAT on hire materials.

Schools:

Is my school’s performance public or private?

A public performance is advertised locally and is open to the wider public. A private performance is only given to friends and family.

If my performance is private, do I still need to pay a performance fee?

Yes. You will still need to pay a performance fee and hire fees for the materials you require.

Are there any geographical performance restrictions?

If you are performing publically, we will check to see if any other performances of your chosen musical are happening within a 30 mile radius, and 3 months either side of your production. If this occurs, we have to seek permission from the company who applied first for your performance to go ahead.

Societies:

What percentage of box office will I have to pay?

This varies for each show. The performance cost can be found on the relevant show page.

Are there any performance restrictions?

When you apply for your licence, we will check to see if any other performances of your chosen musical are happening within a 30 mile radius, and 3 months either side of your production. If this occurs, we have to seek permission from the company who applied first for your performance to go ahead.

Video Licenses:

Can I video my performance?

You will need to apply for a separate video licence. These are approved on a case by case basis. You will need to inform us that you require a separate video licence when you apply.

How much is a video licence?

We charge £50 for a video licence.

How many copies of the video can I make?

A video licence allows you to make up to 50 copies of the video for private use only, which must either be given away or sold at cost price only.

Copying Scripts:

Can I make copies of the scores/script?

No. Reproducing a copyrighted work by any means without prior permission is illegal. Copyright exists to protect the authors’ work and ensure their livelihood.

Can I make an enlarged copy of the score/script?

If you require an enlarged copy of the score/script for a stage manager or a partially sighted member of your cast/crew please contact us with the full details. This will be approved on a case by case basis.

Payment:

When do I have to pay?

You will receive an invoice after your final performance. Once you have received the invoice you have 30 days to make your payment.

Will we get a refund if we choose to cancel our production?

We have the right to charge a cancellation fee of £60 (plus VAT) if the licence has been issued. In the event that materials have already been sent we will charge the appropriate hire fees.
